I chose my colours for this project carefully. The central palette was obviously red - as children would be seeing this exhibit, I used red to make it absolute which character this was even if they weren't familiar with the design or its period. For the auxiliary colours I chose black and white, to reflect a chess board - whilst she is more associated with playing cards, she also is seen on a checkerboard battlefield towards the end of the well-known movie, and I utilised the contrast between colours to highlight certain elements. I also used gold for accents, as it stood out against bold shades.
I did use coloured pencils, as watercolours weren't available to me at the time - whilst the desired effect was still achieved, some of the fine detail was lost and the images came out poorer quality. Hence in the next project, I will experiment with different traditional mediums.
