I was advised by my tutor just to make the hood, given the complexity of the project and the time allotted. This turned out to be valuable advice as roughly 50% of the project time was spent on patterning the complex, 3D hood alone.
I first used a cone shape, in 1/4 scale, as a base, then split that into 7 sections and altered each to form a forward curve. I assembled it to check it worked with every scale up. I moved up to 1/2 scale, refining the curves and correcting small errors. I finally scaled this up to 1:1, and made a successful toile.
The lining was made using a clingfilm and masking tape on a 23" mannequin head, then drawing on the seams to make flat pieces.
